The California state legislature recently passed a statewide rent control and tenant protection bill, Assembly Bill 1482. The new law, known as the Tenant Protection Act of 2019, caps annual rent increases at 5 percent plus inflation for all buildings 15 years or older in addition to establishing other new regulations.
